STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The U.S. Department of Justice said yesterday it had given the go-ahead for Staten Island to become its own judicial district.
Now it's up to the state Assembly to pass pending legislation that would create seven state Supreme Court judgeships for the new 13th Judicial District.
But the Justice ruling did not settle the questions about how the Nov. 4 election for a vacant state Supreme Court seat here will be conducted. <read more>

The Richmond County Bar Association recently updated its website to make it more user-friendly for everyone who visits the site. "Whether you are looking for an attorney to address your specific legal needs or a lawyer looking to find out the availability of Continuing Legal Education (CLE) courses offered by our organization, our recently updated website is full of information and resources for a variety of people and professionals," said Jonathan Behrins, president of the Richmond County Bar Association.
