STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The U.S. Department of Justice said yesterday it had given the go-ahead for Staten Island to become its own judicial district.
Now it's up to the state Assembly to pass pending legislation that would create seven state Supreme Court judgeships for the new 13th Judicial District.
But the Justice ruling did not settle the questions about how the Nov. 4 election for a vacant state Supreme Court seat here will be conducted.

The Richmond County Bar Association recently updated its website to make it more user-friendly for everyone who visits the site.
